If you’re new to threadless flatback jewelry, welcome! You’re going to love how comfortable and secure it is once you get the hang of it! This guide will walk you through how to insert, remove, and adjust your jewelry safely at home using your threader tool.

Threadless jewelry is made of two pieces:
A flatback post, with a smooth disc that rests comfortably against the back of your ear.
A pin, which is the decorative front that slides into the post.
Instead of screwing together, the pin holds in place by tension created from a slight bend in the pin. The bend gives just enough grip to keep the jewelry secure without threads or tools.
All of my flatbacks are made from implant-grade titanium (ASTM F136) (unless otherwise labeled Surgical Steel) They’re completely hypoallergenic, nickel-free, and safe for long-term wear!

Before your jewelry goes in, take a moment to check the fit between the pin and post.
Hold the post in one hand and gently insert the pin (without putting it in your ear yet!).
Push it about halfway in. It should feel snug, but not impossible to insert or remove.
If it slides in too easily or feels loose, slightly increase the bend in the end of the pin.
If it’s too tight, straighten the pin just a little.
There should always be a small bend. This creates the tension that keeps your jewelry securely together. Once it feels right, separate the pieces again before inserting them into your ear.

Wash your hands and make sure the area is clean.
Insert the threader tool through your piercing pin side first.
Bring the flatback post behind your ear and put onto the pin side of the threader. Sometimes slightly tilting out the threader helps to see it better!
Gently push on the back of the post and slide the threader out until the post is sticking out the front.
Remove the threader from the front, keeping the post in place.
Insert the decorativepin through the front of your piercing and push it into the post until it feels secure.
You may feel a soft “click” or just a bit of resistance when it’s fully closed. That’s normal and means the tension is holding properly!
 -

Hold the flatback disc steady behind your ear.
Grip the decorative front firmly and pull straight out. If it feels stuck, try gently twisting the pin. This will help release the tension and make removal smoother.
Avoid forcing it! Steady pressure and a little wiggle are all you need!
If it still won’t move, warm saline or a shower can help loosen natural buildup before trying again.
 -

Your jewelry should sit comfortably against the skin, not pressed in or hanging loosely.
If the post feels long or catches on things, it may be time to downsize to a shorter post!
Avoid sleeping directly on new piercings or snagging jewelry on hair, clothing, or headphones.

My jewelry feels loose:
Remove the pin, bend it just slightly more, and reinsert to increase the tension.I can’t get the pin in:
Make sure the pin isn’t too bent! Check the angle! if it’s too sharp, straighten it just a touch. It feels stuck:
Hold the back steady and gently twist the pin as you pull to loosen it. Don’t yank or force it. If you feel like you don’t want to do it on your own, you’re always welcome to book a Jewelry Change Appointment with me! I’m happy to help!
A Little Reminder
Threadless jewelry is one of the most comfortable and secure styles once you know how to work with it. Be gentle, take your time, and if you ever need help, book a jewelry change appointment and I’d be happy to assist!
XOXO, Sariah
